Tomoe Akao, 98, of Hilo, formerly of Pahala, died Feb. 25 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Kalaoa, Papaikou, she was a homemaker and member of Hilo Meishoin and Pahala Senior Citizens Club. Services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by daughters, Mary Ann Akao of Honolulu, Norma Edwin of Pohnpei, Micronesia, and Helen (Clyde) Kobayashi of Hilo; brother, Mitsuru Sato of Honolulu; sister, Thelma Doi of Hanapepe, Kauai; sister-in-law, Toshiko Sato of Honolulu; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Patrick “Pat” Gerald Conner, 67, of Kailua-Kona, died Feb. 19 at home. Born in Hayden, Colo., he was a graphic artist, copywriter, editor, painter, musician, former ad agency owner, author of numerous books, lay chaplain at Kona Community Hospital, former member and council member of Hope Chapel Kona, and former later pastor at Church on the Way in Van Nuys, Calif. Private service at a later date. Survived by wife, Colleen Conner of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Cate (Brian) Brooks of Portland, Ore., and Malia Conner of Kailua-Kona; son, Michael Conner of Portland, Ore.; three granddaughters. William “Uncle Billy” James Kimi, Jr., 93, of Kailua-Kona died Feb. 19 at home. Born in Hilo, he was founder and owner of Uncle Billy’s Hilo Bay and Kona Bay hotels and Kona Inn Shopping Village, pig farmer, clothing manufacturer, certified master chef, building contractor, importer and art dealer, Rotarian, Central Pacific Bank adviser, Hawaii Businessman of the Year and O‘o Award recipient, member of Chef de Cuisine, Hawaii Restaurant Association and its Hall of Fame, Hawaiian Civic Club, Royal Order of Kamehameha and Chief Ali‘i, and philanthropist who founded Aikane Scholarship for Hawaii Island students, donated to Kona schools and AYSO for its soccer field. Visitation 8-11 a.m. Friday, March 11 at New Hope Christian Fellowship, 840 Kupulau Road, Hilo. Service at 11 a.m. Lunch to follow. Burial 2:30 p.m. at Homelani Memorial Park in Hilo. Casual attire; flowers welcome. Visitation again 10-12:45 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Alii Drive, Kailua-Kona. Memorial service at 12:45 p.m. No flowers. Gathering and celebration of life to follow on oceanfront lawn of Kona Inn Shopping Village. Memorial donations to Hospice of Kona and Hawaii Island Food Basket. Survived by sons, Billy (Laura) Kimi III and Kimo (Jeanne) Kimi of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Beverly (Stan) Oka of Holualoa, Sandy (Dennis) Yokomizo of Hilo, Daphne (Mahmoud) Moinpour of Los Angeles and Traci (Patrick) Snively of Kailua-Kona; 17 granchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins. Kalahiki Elizabeth Talley, 80, of Kailua-Kona died Feb. 25 at home. Born in Honolulu, she was a Tahitian dancer for Puka Puka Otea at the Queen Surf, the Kodak Hula Show and International Marketplace in Waikiki, bartender and cocktail waitress at numerous Oahu establishments, 1953 Kamehameha Schools alumna and member of Bushwachers Golf Club. No services. Survived by son, Billy Talley III of Kailua-Kona; brother, Limaloa (Willie) Chung of Kailua, Oahu; one grandson; nieces, nephews, and cousins. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Benjamin “Ben the Chicken Man” Alexander Toro, 66, of Ocean View died Jan. 30 at home. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired artist, auto mechanic and auto body painter.
